An answering service for a house cleaning business picks up while you're mid-job so a booking request doesn't go to voicemail. The three options are a human call center, a virtual receptionist, or an AI line like Beside that answers in your voice for $29.99 a month.

We answer calls all day for businesses that work with their hands, and cleaning lines have a shape of their own. The caller almost never wants one clean. She wants somebody every other Thursday, and she is ringing three companies to see who picks up.

What one missed call costs a cleaning business

A plumber who misses a call loses a job. A cleaner who misses a call loses a subscription.

Nationally, a basic three-bedroom clean runs $130 to $220 a visit (Source: HomeAdvisor, 2026). On a biweekly schedule that is 26 visits, so one recurring client is worth $3,380 to $5,720 a year. The multiplication is ours.

Voicemail is the cheapest way to lose a client you have not met yet.

HomePer visitBiweekly, one yearWeekly, one year
2-bedroom$100–$180$2,600–$4,680$5,200–$9,360
3-bedroom$130–$220$3,380–$5,720$6,760–$11,440
4-bedroom$200–$225$5,200–$5,850$10,400–$11,700

What you cannot see from inside a client's house is what the caller does next. Across home services, 52% of calls get answered at all, and 45% of the phone leads that do get through close on that same call (Source: Invoca, 2026). The booking happens while she still has you on the line.

Plenty of the answered ones end without anyone asking for the work: in home services the business asks for the sale or the appointment 45% of the time (Source: Invoca, 2026). An AI that asks on every call beats a good human who remembers on fewer than half, and that gap is what an AI receptionist is actually for.

Where a booked cleaning actually lands

Beside handles the appointment request and books it directly into your calendar, after asking the qualifying questions you set: square footage, pets, how many bathrooms, which day.

The honest part is the integration list. No cleaning-industry scheduling software appears on beside.com/integrations today: 17 direct integrations, mostly CRMs and workplace tools, plus Zapier's 1,000+ apps (Source: beside.com, 2026).

If your scheduler has a Zapier connector, that is your bridge. If not, the booking still lands on your calendar with a summary you copy across at day's end.

A Thursday morning, from the caller's side

A woman four blocks away has just moved into a three-bedroom, and you are second on her list. She calls at 9:40am. You are in a kitchen with the vacuum running.

Your line rings the number of times you chose, so you get first crack at it. When you do not pick up, Beside does, in a voice you set up. It asks the three things you always need: bedrooms and bathrooms, pets, one clean or a schedule. She says every other Thursday. It books the appointment into your calendar and writes down every answer she gave.

You come out to the truck at 11:15 and the summary is waiting: name, address, three bedrooms, two cats, biweekly, Thursdays. That evening the daily recap lists her with the two other calls that came in while you worked.

"When my hands are busy with a client, I can't pick up right away. Beside takes the call, asks questions, and I call back when I'm free." — — Tyna Atabaeva, PodivaNYC

Tyna runs a solo mobile nail business in New York, not a cleaning company. Beside has no published cleaning case study yet, but her constraint is the same: your hands are in someone else's home and the phone cannot win.

The call an AI should not try to price

Cleaning quotes depend on seeing the house. A move-out with three years of grease on the range hood, a post-construction dust-down, a hoarding job: none of those should be priced over the phone, and an AI that tries costs you twice, on the underbid and on the review.

Beside does not try. It asks your qualifying questions, captures the details, and hands the live call to you with context when a caller needs a person. You get the transcript and summary either way, and you can name contacts the AI never handles, where your two biggest commercial accounts belong.

Thirty calls is a slow month for a cleaning line. The humans are good; they are metered. Beside is your own line at one flat price, so your busiest month costs what your quietest one does, and busy months are exactly where the cost of a missed call hides.

What it costs next to what a client is worth

Beside is $29.99 a month per user, or $199.99 a year on the annual plan, and every account starts with a 7-day free trial (Source: beside.com, 2026). One three-bedroom clean at the top of the national range, $220, is more than a full year of the annual plan.

The objection worth taking seriously at that price is how it sounds. You can clone your voice or pick one from the library, and teach it to say your business name, so the caller hears your company, not a call center. That is what 21,000+ paying businesses are paying for, at 4.8 stars from 8.9K App Store ratings (Source: Apple App Store, 2026) (Source: beside.com, 2026).

Switching without touching your number

Three steps, about ten minutes of setup.

  1. Forward, do not port, on day one. Your existing number keeps ringing the way it always has, and Beside picks up when you do not. Turn it off and you are back where you started.
  2. Set the ring count. Decide how many rings you get before the AI answers, so a call you want is still yours to take.
  3. Write your three questions. Bedrooms and bathrooms, pets, one-time or recurring. Those three answers are the difference between a message and a booking.

If your scheduler is not on the integration list

Check whether it offers a Zapier connector. If it does, connect it and let new bookings flow straight through. If not, keep your calendar as the source of truth and copy the summaries across once a day. Beside is the phone line and the intake, not the route planner.

PS, we're building Beside Agentic, an agent that runs the follow-through across the whole business, not just the phone. The waitlist is open.
